Nyles Morgan rises to the top of the tackles leaderboard

All season long, Elks linebacker Nyles Morgan has been near the top of the CFL leaderboard for defensive tackles, and on Week 16 he finally took over first place.

Thanks to a new career high of 12 defensive tackles, against the BC Lions, Morgan moved ahead of Micah Awe to rank No. 1 in the league. He has 98 defensive tackles this season, 10th most in a single season in club history. Only three different players have ever recorded 100 defensive tackles for the Green and Gold in a season.

Morgan has been wrapping up opposition throughout the season. He has at least six defensive tackles in all but three games through Week 16. The Notre Dame product has four sacks, establishing another new career high, including two in Edmonton’s first win of the season, over the Hamilton Ti-Cats in Week 11.

The Notre Dame product also has his first career interception, picking off Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris in Week 1 at Commonwealth Stadium.
