Since making his first start of the season in Week 10, Tre Ford has taken the CFL by the storm.
The second-year pivot from the University of Waterloo already made history as a rookie in 2022 when he became the first Canadian to start at quarterback for the Elks in over half a century. Now he’s making highlight-reel plays every week.
Ford won four of his first starts this season, using precession passing and a breakaway speed to march the Elks down field.
The 25-year-old is the CFL’s most accurate QB, completing 70.1% of his pass attempts through Week 16, while throwing nine touchdowns against just four interceptions, for one of the best TD:INT ratios in the league. His QB rating of 108.7 through Week 16 was also among the best in the league.

The former sprinter is just as dangerous when he takes off with the pigskin, rushing for at least 50 yards in each of his first six starts, including four consecutive games with 70 or more rushing yards. In Week 13 against the Calgary Stampeders, Ford ran for an incredible 135 yards, tied for the most by a Green and Gold quarterback since the 1990s. Among players with at least 10 rushing attempts through Week 16, Ford led the entire league with an average of 9.9 yards per carry.
Ford has thrived in clutch situations, already leading Edmonton to two massive comebacks this season: He engineered four fourth quarter scoring drives against Calgary in Week 14, as the Elks scored the game’s final 18 points to defeat the Stamps 25-23. The next week, in Regina, he helped Edmonton outscore the Saskatchewan Roughriders 16-0 in the fourth quarter to erase a nine-point deficit and win 36-27. That gave Ford three double-digit comeback victories in the first nine starts of his burgeoning CFL career.
A native of Niagara Falls, Ont., Ford was recognized as Player of the Month on the CFL Honour Roll All-August Team powered by Pro Football Focus (PFF). He was also Player of the Week for Week 11, after leading the Elks to their first victory of the season.
