With four wins in their last five games, the Elks are one of the hottest teams in the second half of the season. After starting 0-9, Edmonton is now 4-10 and beginning to climb the standings.

Edmonton has turned into Team Comeback, after rallying from deficits of 16 and 10 points, respectively, for wins in Week 14 vs. the Calgary Stampeders and Week 15 at the Saskatchewan Roughriders. The Elks have outscored the opposition 34-0 in the fourth quarter of the last two games.

While Edmonton has scored 20 or more points in six straight games since Tre Ford took over as starting quarterback in Week 11, the Elks defence has also risen to the occasion, forcing five two-and-outs in the fourth quarter of the last two games combined, and even contributed points with a game-sealing safety from Sam Acheampong late in Edmonton’s 36-27 victory over the ‘Riders at Mosaic Stadium last Friday.

The ground attack has been key to Edmonton’s scoring surge. The Elks are on an incredible streak of exceeding 200 rushing yards, with at least 226 yards gained on the ground in each of their last three games. Leading the way is running back Kevin Brown, who ranks second in the CFL with 1,004 rushing yards, after gaining a career- and CFL season-high 175 yards last week.

Edmonton has lost both meetings to the Lions this season, 22-0 in Vancouver on June 17 and 29-0 at home on July 29. However, since these teams last played each other, in Week 8, the Elks have gone 4-2 while BC is 3-3.

Two weeks ago at Commonwealth Stadium, Elks fans experienced one of the most electrifying moments in years, when Dean Faithfull kicked the winning field goal on the game’s final play to lift the Elks to a 25-23 victory over the rival Stamps in the annual Labour Day Classic rematch. Expect an energetic atmosphere once again Friday, with thousands of students from local post-secondary institutions including the University of Alberta, MacEwan University, and NAIT, proudly representing their schools as part of the Campus Clash theme.
