After coming up just short at McMahon Stadium in a 35-31 defeat on Monday, Edmonton will look to rebound with its second consecutive home win. The Elks beat the Ottawa Redblacks 30-20 in their last game at Commonwealth Stadium, on Aug. 27.

Tre Ford is making his fifth straight start under centre for the Green and Gold. In Monday’s game, the second-year pivot set a record for Canadian quarterbacks with 135 rushing yards, which was also tied for the most by an Edmonton QB since 1999.

Ford has led an offensive surge for the Elks, who are coming off back-to-back games with at least 30 points for the first time since the start of the 2019 season. Ball protection has been key, as Edmonton has gone its last 37 offensive protections without an interception or lost fumble. Dean Faithfull is also helping the Elks capitalize on their opportunities; the rapidly improving rookie kicker has hit seven consecutive field goal attempts and converted 15 straight extra points.

This is the 34th time Calgary and Edmonton have met at Commonwealth Stadium immediately following the Labour Day Classic. The Elks enter Saturday’s tilt with a record of 15-18 in the previous 33 editions of the LDC rematch, including a current streak of three losses in a row.

As part of Cleats of Strength presented by MHCare Medical, star Elks receiver Eugene Lewis will be wearing a pair of custom-painted cleats designed in collaboration with a patient from the Stollery Children’s Hospital. From noon MT on Sept. 9 to 8 p.m. MT on Sept. 24, fans can visit the Elks website to bid on the cleats, with proceeds going to the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.
