TRANSACTIONS | Elks sign QB Tate, two others

The Edmonton Elks announced Tuesday the signings of National Peter Kozushka (OL) and Americans Javahn Fergurson (LB) and Khalil Tate (QB).

Tate signed with the Elks in January of 2022, before being released in early May. The University of Arizona product had stints with the Toronto Argonauts in 2022 and the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020. Collegiately, he played four years for the Wildcats (2016-19), amassing 6,318 passing yards, 57 touchdowns, and 31 interceptions, while adding 2,285 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns over 40 career games. 

Kozushka was a four-year starter at the University of Alberta, where he suited up for 29 consecutive games with the Golden Bears between 2018 and 2022. He started five games at left tackle and three at guard in 2022.

The Yorkton, Sask., product was drafted 51st overall in the 2022 CFL Draft by the Montreal Alouettes, before being released prior to the regular season.

Fergurson spent five seasons (2015-19) at New Mexico State University, totalling 346 total tackles, nine sacks, one interception, one forced fumble and nine pass deflections in 39 career games. The Baton Rouge, LA., native was selected to the Phil Steele All-Independent First Team in 2019 and his 346 tackles ranks 10th on the Aggies’ all-time list.

In 2022, Fergurson suited up for the Vegas Knight Hawks of the Indoor Football League, recording 64 total tackles, one sack, and one interception.
