Dinos defeat Golden Bears in first game of doubleheader

The Calgary Dinos defeated the Alberta Golden Bears 24-11 in the first game of Saturday’s football doubleheader at The Brick Field at Commonwealth Stadium.

Calgary (1-5) picks up its first win of the 2022 Canada West season, while Alberta (2-4) drops its third straight contest.

Dinos quarterback Daniel Sananes completed 21 of 33 passes for 317 yards. Mikel Ange-Desjardins had eight catches for 118 yards with a touchdown for the Dinos.

Jonathan Rosery scored Alberta’s lone touchdown, on an 18-yard reception from quarterback Jonathan Ericson.

The Dinos led 10-0 after 15 minutes, before Alberta rallied in the second quarter to tie the score 10-10. Calgary scored a touchdown on an interception return by Jordan Chizda late in the first half to take a 17-10 lead into the locker room. A rouge by Alberta’s Jonathan Guistini cut the lead to 17-11 in the third quarter, before a fourth quarter touchdown by the Dinos closed out the scoring.

The second game of the doubleheader will see the Edmonton Elks host the Toronto Argonauts in CFL regular season action. Kickoff is 5 p.m.
