Esks Cheer Team gets ready for 100th Grey Cup

Cheer Team Blog – Devyn

It’s crunch time for the Edmonton Eskimos. With the Eastern Semi-Final coming up this weekend, I can only imagine the atmosphere and energy in the players’ locker room. It’s a real life story that reads like a movie script: the Eskimos crossover to the Eastern Semi-Final to take on the Argos – and the former face of the franchise, Ricky Ray. Although we won’t be making the trip to Toronto this weekend, you can bet cheer team members will be glued to our TVs like the rest of the Eskimo fans, cheering on our team from afar!

It’s a busy time for the Eskimo Cheer Team, as we prepare for the 100th Grey Cup in Toronto later this month. In between practicing and performing at games and having the honour of performing at the Eskimo Women’s Dinner and the Annual Dinner, the Cheer Team has been learning and rehearsing new choreography that we will perform at over 30 events over the course of Grey Cup weekend. It’s a hectic, fun-filled schedule, that doesn’t really allow us much time to sleep, but I think I can speak for the rest of the Eskimo Cheer Team, as well as the other cheer teams from around the CFL, the experience is definitely worth it!

The 100th Grey Cup in Toronto promises to be an exciting one for all involved. Highlights for the cheer team include performing and talking with fans at all of the team-specific party rooms, especially the Spirit of Edmonton room on a nightly basis (Sociables!), performing at the Cheer Extravaganza along with the other CFL cheer teams, and, of course, Grey Cup Sunday! We can’t wait to see the best fans in the CFL representing the Edmonton Eskimos in Toronto, and with any luck, hopefully we’ll be cheering on our football club in the Grey Cup game – Go Esks!!!
