“And so it begins!”

Edmonton Eskimos
Chelsea B’s Blog – Eskimo Cheer Team

Here it was, game day. After months of preparation and hours of rehearsal, I could not believe that it had finally come. Standing in the tunnel, eagerly waiting for the first beat of our music, it had finally dawned on me that tonight I would no longer be practicing my routines and cheers in front of the small mirror that sits on my dresser before bed, but rather on the Commonwealth field, in front of thousands of loyal Eskimo fans.

I had been anxiously awaiting for the game to begin the whole day, so when we arrived at the stadium at 4:00 to begin our preparations for the game, I already had my game day smile on. We had practiced all of our routines and even our half-time show with the Jr. Esks, Eski-Minis and Eski-Ladies to get every last step to perfection. We basically ran through the entire performance before kick-off even began! All of the hard work that each and every one of us had put into this season thus far, including the Jr. Esks, Eski-Minis and Eski-Ladies, really did show on the field that evening! Everyone was at their best, and it excites me to know that it can only get better from here!

When the music filled the stadium my heart began to race, and that first step on the field as an Edmonton Eskimo Cheerleader will be one that I will never forget. We could not have been blessed with a more beautiful day that Thursday evening as the sun shone almost as bright as the smiles on the faces of our cheer team. Looking up and seeing a sea of green and gold, I truly felt proud of not only of the Edmonton Eskimo Football Club, but of Edmonton and its people. Being born and raised in Calgary, I have learned to love Edmonton more and more over the past four years that I have lived here. However, it was that day, after seeing you amazing fans that I truly felt proud to be an Edmontonian!

As an Eskimo Cheerleader, we are so fortunate to have so many great opportunities. One small example is being able to attend the Finger 11 Cabaret and Concert with all the Eskimo fans after the game. The entire team is so excited.

I cannot wait to see what the rest of the season brings us! Thank you Eskimo fans and team for such a wonderful first game experience! See you all on Saturday. GO ESKS GO!
