(Edmonton) The final tryouts for the 2012 Eskimo Cheer Team were held today at Perfect Storm Athletics. Dancers paired up and performed two routines each for family, friends, fans and judges in hopes of becoming part of the 2012 team.

The judging panel of eight included Eskimo running back Calvin McCarty, play-by-play man Morley Scott and season ticket holder Ryan Batty.  The judges had the difficult task of whittling down the list of hopefuls to just 18 dancers who will join the 24 stunters who were named earlier in the day.

Ryan Batty, Calvin McCarty and Morley Scott had tough decisions to make as judges at the tryouts.

“Being a judge for the @EsksCheerTeam tryouts today was fun,” tweeted @ryan_batty, who won a contest on esks.com earlier in the week for his seat at the judges’ table.  “It was also a lot tougher than I had guessed.”

Now that the team has been named, the hard work begins on learning the various routines for the upcoming season. Next weekend, the girls and guys have a photo shoot for pictures that will be used on their website and playing cards.

“After months of preparation, I am so excited to finally begin the 2012 season with the Edmonton Eskimos Cheer Team,”  says 4th year vet Kylee. “This 100th season of the CFL is bound to be unforgettable, and I am so thrilled to be able to share these special experiences with my teammates. I can’t wait to get out on the field at Commonwealth this June and cheer on the Eskimos.”

The 2012 squad will officially be revealed at the Cheer Team Unveiling Party in early June. Stay tuned to esks.com for details!
