Cheering for the Battle of Alberta

Edmonton Eskimos
Kylee’s Blog – Eskimo Cheer Team

The Labour Day Classic has become one of my most anticipated events during the Eskimo season. Despite the fact that the teams are rivals, the two cheer teams are the bridge between the two football clubs in the Battle of Alberta.

The Outriders cheer team are our sister cheerleaders in Calgary, and although everyone expects us to harbor animosity against each other and fuel the feud, I can honestly say that we have developed a great relationship. I genuinely look forward to seeing the Outriders at the Labour Day Classic, as well as the rematch in Edmonton, not to mention the entire weekend at Grey Cup.

We take turns welcoming each other by hosting a “team colour” themed potluck dinner where we exchange our cheer team calendars for the season. We cherish the opportunity to share experiences and to get to know the Outriders, who love their team as much as we love our Esks.

Although we have some key players injured, the Eskimos have heart, and the season is still a long way from over! Eskimo fans need to support the team more than ever now. We love looking out into the stands at McMahon Stadium and seeing the most passionate, die-hard Eskimo fans proudly wearing their green and gold jerseys in the sea of red. Knowing that such dedicated fans are there to support the Esks must be so motivational for the players, because I know how much the cheer team appreciates the support!

We are hoping our Eskimo fans swarm McMahon Stadium and bring our team good luck. It is going to be a great week of football in Alberta!
