Edmonton would finish first in the Western Conference with a record of 9-5-2 and head to the 61st Grey Cup. The Double E lost to the Ottawa Rough Riders in the Grey Cup by a score of 22-18 at CNE Stadium in Toronto.
George McGowan would win the Schenley Most Outstanding Player Award, after catching 81 passes for 1,123 yards and 9 touchdowns. He is still second on the CFL’s all-time list for most catches in a regular season game with 15 receptions for 249 yards against the Saskatchewan Roughriders on September 3. Quarterbacks Bruce Lemmerman and Tom Wilkinson combined for 24 touchdowns and over 3,000 passing yards, while running back Roy Bell ran for a team-best 1,455 yards.
M.I. (Moe) Lieberman is inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame as a Builder.
