Founded by a group of Edmonton businessmen, the Edmonton Eskimos began play in the fall of 1949 out of Clarke Stadium. The Club adopted their iconic Green and Gold colours after purchasing uniforms from the University of Alberta. The team finished in 3rd place in the Western Interprovincial Football Union with a 4–10 record and missed the playoffs, as Annis Stukus guided the team as head coach, while Al Anderson was the Club’s first general manager.
