To ensure a safe environment for the public, eliminate unnecessary contact at entry gates, and to accelerate fan entry in to the stadium. Commonwealth Stadium and the Edmonton Elks have implemented a Clear Bag policy that limits the size and types of bags that be brought into the stadium. Exceptions to this policy may be made for medical items, or family bags, after proper inspection.
Commonwealth Stadium has a no bag policy for all guests attending events at the venue to make entry faster, safer and easier for everyone.
- Guests are encouraged not to bring bags to the stadium
- Guests may enter with a clear plastic bag that is no larger than 12” x 12” x 6”. Clear bags are available for purchase at the Elks Team Store and at the ticket windows at gates 2 and 9.
- Guests may also carry one small clutch wallet or purse no larger than 6.5” x 4.5”, with a handle or strap, which will be searched

Common FAQ’s
How many bags can each person bring into the stadium?
Stadium security will use discretion when assessing how many bags are being brought into the stadium. It is strongly recommended with one large clear bag – either a one-gallon Ziploc style bag or the 12″ by 6″ by 12″ clear bag – plus a small clutch. The larger clear bag must be a standard 12″ by 6″ by 12″ made of clear PVC vinyl. The one-gallon Ziploc bag is readily available, inexpensive and easily searched. The small clutch allows privacy for small personal items and also is easily searched.
Can I check my bag anywhere?
Yes. Bag checks are available inside the ticket windows at gates 2 (SW corner, Elks Fan Park) and 9 (NE corner, closest gate to Stadium LRT station). Bag check is $10.
Can fans carry cameras, binoculars, smart phones or tablets separately from what they put in a clear bag?
Yes. Binoculars or a phone can be carried into the stadium so long as it is not in its own bag. This is not a restriction on items that fans have been able to bring into the stadium in the past. It is only a restriction on the type of container used to carry items.
What about bringing blankets in cold weather?
Fans will be able to bring blankets by tossing them over a shoulder or arm. They can be easily screened by security staff.
What happens if I show up at the gate with a bag that is not permitted?
Fans carrying bags that do not meet the criteria will be redirected to the bag check locations at the Gates 2 & 9 ticket windows. Guests with oversized items may store them for a check-in fee of $10. The standard bag policy allows “small purses or belt bags” up to 6.5” x 4.5” and clear bags up to 12” by 12” by 6.” The stadium may make exceptions for diaper bags and medically necessary items. Bag check staff will collect payment and store your bag for the duration of the game. Staff are not responsible for lost or damaged items; the bags are left at the guests’ discretion.
Any bags that are not claimed at the end of the Stadium event will be turned in to Commonwealth Community Rec Centre’s front counter Lost + Found
If I have certain medical items or medical equipment that I need to bring into the stadium what do I do?
There will be designated areas to allow screening of these bags and medically necessary items
What about diaper bags?
Diapers can be carried in a clear bag. Accommodations will also be made for family bags
Where can I purchase clear bags at the stadium?
Yes. Clear bags are available for purchase on game days at the Elks Team Store inside the Commonwealth Community Recreation Centre and at the ticket windows at gates 2 (SW corner of stadium) and 9 (NE corner). We encourage anyone who is going to purchase a bag to do so before they plan to attend an event at the stadium.
