EDMONTON – The Canadian Football League has unveiled every team’s pending free agents, the league announced Friday.
Elks VP of Football Operations and General Manager Ed Hervey has been busy putting pen to paper with some of the Double E’s top stars. Since the beginning of October, the team has locked in running back Justin Rankin, defensive back Tyrell Ford, wide receiver Kaion Julien-Grant, and defensive linemen Robbie Smith, Jordan Williams, and Noah Curtis. The flurry of activity sees the Elks entering December with the fewest pending free agents with 18 — a whopping 26 fewer than the Grey Cup Champion Saskatchewan Roughriders who have 44 players set to become available in February’s free agent frenzy.
In Edmonton, the biggest names on the pending free agent list include defensive lineman Jake Ceresna, wide receivers Kurleigh Gittens Jr and Steven Dunbar Jr, and quarterback Cody Fajardo. Ceresna will be looking to rebound off a season in which he missed the final seven games of 2025 with a knee injury. The 31-year-old has been one of the CFL’s most consistent interior defenders for the last several years, racking up 36 sacks and seven forced fumbles since the start of the 2021 season.
Gittens Jr. wrapped up his second season with the Green and Gold, with the National finishing second on the team in receiving yards (777) and is a year removed from leading the Elks in receptions (85) in 2024.
Fajardo took over the reigns as the Elks starting quarterback in Week 8 of last season, leading the team to a 6-6 record in his 12 starts. The former Grey Cup Most Outstanding Player showed off his trademark accuracy, completing over 73 per cent of his passes en route to 3,408 passing yards and 21 total touchdowns.
The Free Agency Communication Window, in which teams can openly speak with pending free agents or CFL Players’ Association-registered designates, is scheduled for February 1 at noon until February 8 at noon (EST). Free agency is slated to open on February 10.
